Not Just A Moment

You are 3 and he is 19…
Weeks
And I see it now.
I start to understand
The rose creeping
The tint of softly lit nostalgia
For the precious subtleties

Another moment in another day
In another week
In another month

It was nothing special
But it was You
In that moment
In that time

Your curls growing and giving a hint of the girl to come
Dancing away from my baby girl
The highlights giving a golden glow
That soft light rose-tinted haze of love filled nostalgia

Bright eyes shining
Forming expressions I still see
In your ‘big girl’ face now
A cheeky close-lipped full beam smile
Threatening to overflow into giggles
To cascade into delightful squeals

It was just another moment
In another day
A tired mummy
A weary daddy
Treading the delicate balance
Of enjoying, yet counting
Hours and minutes to “Night night, my pet”

Were we truly present?

So I look at him differently.
I study his eyelashes and I try to freeze time
The next stage will come…
So let it wait,
Let it wait.

I watch you with him
And I delight in you both
How did I get so lucky?

I watch you grow, as you mature and refine
Secretly treasuring moments you choose to say,
“Mama?” instead of ‘Mummy’
And,
“Can you hold me?”

Always, Lovey.

Pride warms my soul, and I remember.
I look at him and I am reminded
Of you.
Beautiful you,
Aglow with a haze of soft light

Another moment in another day
In another week
In another month

Each moment a precious jewel
Sparkling in my mind’s eye
Filling my treasure chest of love.

I will never forget, my pet,
Baby You.

❤️

Love, Mummy x
