I have now been a mum for a grand total of 10 weeks! Cliché as it sounds, it truly is life changing. My life has changed forever. It is not the same. It is richer. But I have discovered that richness is formed with grit! This is my assessment and experience of motherhood; sprinkled, no, saturated with beautiful grace.
Motherhood is:
Immense strength through great vulnerability.
Losing yourself. The complete undoing of yourself. To discover and finally meet who you were born to be.
Indescribable love.
Hurting when your baby hurts. Relaxing and soaking in the light of her full faced gummy smile.
Lullabies. Feeding. Wind talk. Silly dancing. Feeding. Poo talk. Funny faces. Resilience. Cooing. Feeding. Burping. Cuddling. More wind talk. Surviving. Feeding. Pride. Baby talk. Conflicting advice. Lots of it. Patience. Wonder. Walking. Thriving. Messy. Victories. Frustrations. Intrigue. Joy. Feeding. Swaying. More cuddling. Loving.
Exhausting. So exhausting.
Uncontainable pride at every small milestone or new achievement.
Discomfort while pulling, shifting, wriggling, wrestling, and settling into a new skin.
An unexplainable, deep instinctual knowing of your baby and their needs.
Becoming. While very much being.
The song ‘Champion’ (Maverick City, UPPERROOM, Brandon Lake, Maryanne J. George) really speaks to me in this season of change and transition (see lyrics below).
It speaks of God, our Abba, and how in all things He is undefeated. He raises our imperfections and brokenness to glory. We have the authority in Jesus’ name to defeat the enemy and declare victory. In our weakness, God’s strength shines through.
In motherhood, I have the privilege of seeing God’s glory shine in ways I never could before. Giving my all could never be enough. On my own, I am imperfect and flawed. However, He comes in, and He fills the gaps and pours His grace over it all. He pours into me, so I can pour into my child. He lets my cup run over – with more grace, more love, more understanding, more glory. He is strong and undefeated. I have never experienced this to the depth I have as a new mum.
Praise God! For blessing me with this gift and allowing me to experience His presence like never before.
Motherhood is:
An opportunity to meet with God, to experience His goodness, to truly know His Abba characteristics, to a new and greater depth.
‘He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young.’ – Isaiah 40:11

I’ve tried so hard to see it
Took me so long to believe it
That You’d choose someone like me
To carry Your victory
Perfection could never earn it
You give what we don’t deserve and
You take the broken things
And raise them to glory
You are my champion
Giants fall when you stand
Undefeated, every battle You’ve won
And I am who You say I am
You crown me with confidence
I am seated, in the heavenly place
Undefeated, with the one who has conquered it all
Now I can finally see it
You’re teaching me how to receive it
So let all the striving cease
This is my victory
You are my champion
Giants fall when you stand
Undefeated, every battle You’ve won
I am who You say I am
You crown me with confidence
I am seated, in the heavenly place
Undefeated, with the one who has conquered it all
It all, it all, it all, it all, it all
It all, it all, You conquered it all
There is nothing missing (You’ve never lost a battle)
There is nothing missing (Your record is perfect)
There is nothing missing
There is nothing empty
There is nothing void
And when I lift my voice and shout
Every wall comes crashing down
I have the authority
Jesus has given me
And when I open up my mouth
Miracles start breaking out
I have the authority
Jesus has given me
When I lift my voice and shout
Every wall comes crashing down
I have the authority
Jesus has given me
When I open up my mouth
Miracles start breaking out
I have the authority
Jesus has given me
When I open up my mouth
Miracles start breaking out
I have the authority
Jesus has given me
You are my champion
Giants fall when you stand
Undefeated, every battle You’ve won
I am who You say I am
You crown me with confidence
I am seated, in the heavenly place
Undefeated, by the power of Your name
I am seated, in the heavenly place
Undefeated, with the One who has conquered it all
You are my champion
Giants fall when you stand
Undefeated, every battle You’ve won
I am who You say I am
You crown me with confidence
I am seated, in the heavenly place
Undefeated, by the power of Your name
I am seated, in the heavenly place
Undefeated, by the power of Your name
I am seated, in the heavenly place
Undefeated, with the One you has conquered it all
