29. A Letter for You

Dear Friend,

I don’t know you and I don’t know your situation. All I know is that you have a family member who is compassionate and caring and wants you to feel encouraged. They reached out for a quote/word for you.

I have to admit, I felt both honoured and a little bit unsure if I would be able to give you what you need. I hoped I would have the right words – not knowing you, not knowing anything about your situation. I wanted to help. I didn’t want to get it wrong. But I also knew God wants to speak to you, and He used your cousin by giving her the courage to reach out. Praise God for her courage and I trust that through this letter He’ll use me too, to get His message to you.

So I prayed and asked for help. The Lord knows what you need. I prayed for the words and for the message He personally wants to give you. As I prayed, He gave me this song for you:

Meditate on those lyrics. Soak them in. Listen and hear every word. They are for you. They are a personal message for you from Him. From your heavenly Father. He loves you so much. He sees the struggles you are walking through. He knows exactly how you feel. Such a myriad of emotions, all due to the complexities of what you’re going through. It’s a lot to carry and to hold. He wants to lift those burdens and those concerns off your shoulders. He wants you to lean completely on Him, throughout this season in your life – and always.


He wants you to feel His Perfect Peace. To get there, you need to completely trust and lean on Him. You need to seek Him out so strongly, with complete surrender and abandon. Pour out your heart to Him. Pray, pray, pray. No matter how ugly it is or what emotions come out. Don’t be PC or formal about it – you can trust Him with your vulnerabilities. He made you. He knows you. And loves you unconditionally. So, get angry, get upset, cry, question, doubt, and then trust. He can take it. Read the Psalms – David did all that and more – God does not shy away from vulnerability. All He yearns for is that personal communication, that fullness of trust that is expressed when being vulnerable with Him. He wants your relationship with Him to deepen – relying on His support will get you through. He can fill you with the wisdom and encouragement you need to navigate through this difficult time.

God above all is love. He literally is love – the definition. This means He looks at you adoringly – he delights in You; He is filled with unconditional love and admiration for you. He looks down on you with complete and pure compassion. He LOVES you – more than anyone in this world can. When you go through struggles, He hurts as you hurt. It saddens Him when you are sad. He walks through it all with you.

Maybe you need to make some changes in your life. Maybe this is a time of teaching and growth – a season that is painful, but leads to a better life and better strength of character in the long run. Maybe this is just a painful season, where the outcome remains painful, but through it you will learn how to find His Peace and how to move forward amidst the pain/hardship.

Be still and know He is in control. Release the worry and control and leave it to Him to carry. Say to Him, ‘I trust you Lord. Even though I can’t see how this situation could improve or how I could feel better, I trust that You know the way and You can do it. So I give it all to You, Lord. I trust You and I’ll wait on Your perfect timing and Your solution to come about. You work it out. I’m not able – so I trust in Your ability to do so. THANK YOU in advance for the changes You will bring about!’ Demonstrate your trust and faith in Him, by thanking Him for His help, even before you have seen it come to fruition.

Every time doubt or worry comes to mind, meditate on these following verses. I have bombarded you here with verses! Because ultimately, He says it all best. Read His words with a new appreciation that they are true and alive. While you read them, think about what they truly mean and how they apply to your own life. If you don’t understand some of them, pray and ask Him to reveal the meaning to you. They are not just general words and niceties, He speaks directly to you through those words.


‘The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You’. Psalm 9:9-10

‘In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice: my cry came before Him, into His ears… He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters… He brought me out into a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me’. Psalm 18:6, 16, 19

Read all of Psalm 23 and all of Psalm 91

‘The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.’ Psalm 34:18

‘Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun’. Psalm 37:4-6

‘The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord uphold him with His hand’. Psalm 37:23-34

‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the sea’ Psalm 46:1-2

‘As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and He hears my voice. He rescues me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me’. Psalm 55:16-18

‘Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken’. Psalm 55:22

‘But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely’. Psalm 59:16-17

‘But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness’. Psalm 86:15

‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. [i.e. Jesus is not stingy!] Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid’. John 14:27

‘The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness”‘ Jeremiah 31:3

‘Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you’. 1 Peter 5:6-7

‘No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord’. Romans 8:37-39

‘I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us’. Ephesians 3:16-19

‘Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus’. Philippians 4:4-7

I pray you find all of this helpful and that it speaks to you directly. I’ve been praying for you and will continue to do so. Above everything and despite all that is going on, I pray that you really feel and come to understand how deeply loved you are, by God, and how desperately He wants you to take comfort in that and soak in that.
